Now a message for your parents, so make sure they read this.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. The Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus, and the Nightingales choral programs worked very well last year and I have decided to repeat the format this year. Since classroom time is so valuable, I decided to use 1 class in the 2nd -5th grade as my chorus class. The students from these classes will make up the Junoir. Chorus (2nd and 3rd Grade), the Senoir Chorus (4th and 5th Grade) and the Nightingales. Performance on stage is not a requirement to get a passing grade in the class, but doing the classwork and showing proper classrroom behavior is required for earning at least a 2 in Music on the report card.

I select 20 students from each grade to perform in the Junoir and Senoir Chorus, while I only pick 10 students from each grade to be in the Nightingales. The students audition for a chance to perform in each performance. Those students who show excellent written work, as well as mastery in the performance of the music, are chosen to perform. Regardless if your child does a music performance class or not, your child's grade in music class is earned by following the rules of NYC Board of Education as outlined by the Discipline Code, the rules of the school, and the rules in my classroom. I basically have 3 expectations of students in my class . They must

1-Respect themselves
2-Respect others including the teachers
3-Respect property (both music related and non music related)

Unfortunately, as the choral program flourished, the band program which started 2 years ago, had to be stopped because of lack of equipment. Over the summer I wrote a Donor's Choose grant to supply the school with 15 more band instruments to fully stock a class. I have been networking online and offline for possible donors and any donations you can make will greatly benefit the children of P.S. 128. You can make a donation at Mr.Leopold's Donor's Choose Grant. Please contact me via email so I can keep you informed about your child's progress as needed, performance dates, and how you can get involved to strengthen the music program.

Students, if you are in in music groups, you can find music that you can print out. Any music that is on the website has been done so with the permission from the publisher and is printable. At the bottom of this webpage are pictures and sound files of work done in the classroom. If you want your picture on the web, you must bring me a Photo on the Web permission slip signed by your parents. I hope you have a good school year and I look forward to making music with you.
